Natalie (& Boys) Green - Winner !
Parting comment
Well, we certainly feel like we’ve just successfully completed the Marmite Marathon. We really hope we all crossed the line within the first 100! Marmite, you must know our family by now, and know that we’re a family that’s in need to get home, and there’s a large extended family at home, which shares this sentiment. Europe is all Macs has known, and all that Carter remembers. We have lost two grandparents (great grand parents to the children) since being away, and there’s only one left. Please Marmite, gift us this Christmas with all four generations present. And finally, we’re one of only a few isolated cases where we can claim we are 100% Kiwi, and 100% Green. 200% - that’s not bad. Eh?

Steven’s Identity Crisis. Identity crisis!?! What identity crisis??
Since making the favourite’s Steven’s been on top of the world! Some would argue Dusseldorf is already near the top of the world, but either way his mind’s made up and he has a spring in his step. He’s cut his hair, dropped the red passport, lost the sock, and 100% committed to Marmite as a spread. Now he’s ready. Marmite, please bring him home to the real thing.

Natalie’s Plea #5 – The Maternal Grandparents
Personally for my children, the maternal grandparent’s house has accumulated and retains a lot of nostalgic milestones – first steps, first words, first Marmite on toast. Having left in 2007, we’re well into our 4th year of being away, and the grandparents have missed out on all new milestones since. The grandparents have all their 8 ½ grand children living overseas, and are desperate for us to come home. Sooo desperate, that they’re not afraid to do WHATEVER it takes (just look at the Kiwi Battalion video a few posts ago - good on ya Mum and Dad, that’s the Kiwi spirit)

Carter’s Composition #5
Marmite, you may have noticed that Carter has an artistic streak that matches his creative side. Most pieces flipping off his art pad these days have a common Marmite theme, and a standard colour palette black, red, and yellow. Being green, today’s piece really stood out. So we thought we’d share it with you to enjoy.

Natalie’s Plea #4 - The Paternal Grandmother
Very recently the paternal grandmother came to visit, and practically stepped from the plane into a hospital bed with suspected stroke. I wouldn’t consider restricted visiting hours, grandchildren banned from visiting, and sharing a room with a lady replaying lunch, as quality time.

Natalie’s Plea #3 – The Great-Grandmother (come on Marmite, don’t let the old girl down)
My paternal grandparents lived near my school whilst I was growing up, so nearly everyday I would visit them on my way home, and have always been very close to them. They have been a great support to me over the years – in fact my grandmother’s even been voting for me in this competition (actually, someone’s been voting on her behalf as she doesn’t see so well these days). My grandfather has since passed away shortly after Steven was born, but my grandmother (great grandmother to my children) is still alive, and has only a little over 2 years until she receives a letter from Her Majesty the Queen. She’s enjoyed Marmite all her life, and I wonder if she ever considered all those years ago, whilst savouring a Marmite sandwich, that Marmite could also be the means to re-unite her with her granddaughter and great grandchildren. Please bring me home Marmite, so I can see her once again.

Now it's gone too far!!! As you can see it's getting serious. Come on Marmite, send Steven home to get his dress sense back.

Justification:
It’s been a long time since Marmite was sold as a healthy living choice when Sanitarium operated out of café’s, and even longer since Edward Halsey, founder of New Zealand’s ubiquitous Sanitarium brand, began making batches of Granola, New Zealand’s first breakfast cereal. So too has it been an age since the Green family have sampled the delights of these New Zealand breakfast cereals and spreads.
Missing Down-Under whilst living Up-Over in Dusseldorf Germany, our young family is growing up thinking eating leberwurst, salami and kasse on brotchen is a normal breakfast (and dinner). Whilst as concerned parents we do our best to keep our children identified with the Kiwi brand and culture, there’s only so many times you can watch Lord of the Rings, read Alex, or handle listening to Kiri Te Kanawa before a dose of first hand experience is required.
I feel my initial entry should warrant my eligibility. So using the acronym M-A-R-M-I-T-E, I have comprised 7 Reasons as to why the Green family need to return home:
“M” is for “Marmite”. Quintessentially New Zealand’s healthy, vegetarian breakfast spread, which my two youngest children are yet to sample and to make up their own mind as to whether they “like it or hate it” (let’s face it, there is no middle ground here).
“A” is for “Apfel Strudel” these days, but it used to mean “Aotearoa”, “Anorak”, “All Blacks”…
“R” is for “Ripped off”. Since departing New Zealand shores we have averaged approximately 2.5 weeks of Summer per year.
“M” is for “Money”, or perhaps more accurately a lack of it. Pinning our hopes firmly on Marmite, and your votes now, to get us home.
“I” is for “Identity crisis”. Socks and sandles have been promoted from Germanic stereotype to the norm in our home. I long for my children to earn hardened feet, walking barefoot through a Kiwi Summer.
“T” is for “True Christmas”. Not this white stuff.
“E” is for “(Sir) Ed Hillary”. Sir Ed once epitomised himself as “the average New Zealander”. We too
have an adventurous spirit, but where Sir Ed kept close ties with New Zealand, we’re in danger of a losing a Green family generation to Europe.
My husband and I both have entries in this competition in hope that we as a family can all share a hot Christmas with family and friends. In risk of raising the hopes of our children, we have disclosed to them our entries in this competition. We now have a saying around our family table – “Ma-mite win, and we’re hoping that Pa’mite also” http://www.bringinghomethekiwis.co.nz/Entry10876.aspx
New Zealand, a stronghold of hospitality and a country proud, passionate and famous for being clean and green. What an opportunity to make the country even “greener”, by sending the “Green” family home! Despite 4/5 of the Green family contingent being male, we’ll commit to do our best to promote the ‘clean’ image also.
Come on Marmite – think New Zealand, think Green.
25 September 10 at 2:06am
If someone deserves to be getting a free ticket to NZ, then it is this wonderful family. They are faithfully serving God in each and every area they can. They are the most lovely and wonderful neighbors in the whole world! God bless you my dear friends!! Love, Maria

Meet the Greens:
My name's Natalie Green, and have been living abroad for some time now with my husband and three children. Having given England a decent chance when domiciled in Newbury Berkshire, we currently call Dusseldorf Germany home. A brief introduction if you will to the stars of the Green family video clip, linked into this entry: Steven Green, 10 years old. Although still an avid supporter of the All Blacks, "that's a rather brief conversational topic in the [German] playground these days.", there has been a reluctant but understandable shift in interest to the German national football team. (I told you we needed to get home). Carter Green, 6 years old, but he'll tell you he's almost 7. Has an aversion to change, but settling well. Default language is still English, although when forced to will surprise us with his German. Macs Green, 4 years old. Yet to master English and has no recollection of his short life in New Zealand prior to leaving. Marc (Andre) Rameil Green, HmmHmm years old. Father of the family. Not part of this entry submission -- he has his own http://www.bringinghomethekiwis.co.nz/Entry10876.aspx. I hope you enjoy the movie.

Been singing this all morning for you Nat. Thanks Tom - a few changes to the lyrics. The old home town looks the same as I step down from the plane and there to meet me is my Mama and Papa. Down the road I look and there runs (Rosalie) Mary hair of gold and lips like cherries. It's good to touch the green, green grass of home. Yes, they'll all come to meet me, arms reaching, smiling sweetly. It's good to touch the green, green grass of home. The old house is still standing tho' the paint is cracked and dry, and there's that old Pohutukawa tree I used to play on......It's good to touch the green, green grass of home.
