Dear Marmite
Dear Marmite, hope the birthday celebrations are everything and more. Much love to the Sanitarium whanau. Just to let you know- Manu and Jemima (our bicycles) are red black and yellow. Of course this is not simply by chance. Our bicycles are marmite. And thats a not a simile or metaphor. Our bicycles are marmite. We had them painted this way when we ran out of marmite, to remind us of the important things in life and as an impetus to increase our cadence. Anyway, hope you are well. Drop us a line. Will x
Ethiopia
Dear Marmite, how goes?
Ethiopia has a proud tradition of evading the colonial yoke but to be honest, the food isnt too flash. Injera, a grey sour pancake the size of a car wheel could be livened up with a marmite goat gravy, but there isnt any to be found in these parts. Plenty of goats, no marmite.
We're heading south towards Kenya in a few days, so we might be out of coverage, but thinking of you often. Chuck us a line, if you have time. Did you look into Post Restante ?

What a team!! your story is inspiring. Conquering such a long distance on a bike is something I truly want to do, and truly will :) Good luck getting home. I'm supporting the both of you!

Dear Marmite
Dear Marmite. Happy 100th.
We are currently cycling from Istanbul to Cape Town but the last of your yeasty spread ran out in the Sahara in Sudan. This has caused difficulties. Each twist of the pedal is a lurch towards home, towards family, towards Marmite.
We began our adventure in India August 09. Our money supplies are rapidly diminishing, we eat alot of bread, but alas bread without Marmite is not bread rather a bland complicated carbohydrate. With this in mind, we hope you can help. The Papakura Countdown sells Marmite for a very reasonable price, but from Cape Town to the Papakura Countdown its 12000km. This is a difficulty. Please bring us home.
No pressure Marmite, but if you dont bring us home, I dont know who will.
We have cycled over mountains, crossed continents, traversed deserts in the middle of the summer, been attacked by stick wielding pre-pubescent goat-herders and had countless rocks thrown at us. I made a cookbook in Damascus with an Irishman, my girlfriend caught Typhoid and Giardia in Ethiopia and we met many wonderful people along the way. But home is New Zealand.
To ease our saddle sores into the soft comfort of an Air New Zealand emergency exit seat would be madly wonderful. "I'll have the roast lamb with Marmite gravy please stewardess."
(Our bicycles are called Manu and Jemima, they are yellow, very sexy and have red bells. Can they please come to?)
We miss the bush, the beach, solitude, trivial Papakura courier headlines, kumara and good wine. We miss you the most though, Marmite.
Hugs x
Willie
P.S please bring my girlfriend Carrie Fowler home too.

P.P.P.S Even if you dont bring us home can you send us some Marmite Post Restante to the main Post Office in Bujumbura Burundi?

Willie, you have got my vote. Pity about the marmite running out, I have heard it is excellent for saddle sores! Good luck as you head into Uganda, I trust that your food is not too bland without your beloved marmite, Des

Sure, you may have 100,000 facebook friends to vote for you but it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re on the plane. It’s a quality, then quantity rule round here. We’ll be making our decision based on originality and creativity, how well your entry fits with the values of the Marmite brand, then popularity.
